Down This Road

New York, NY – March 28th, 2011 – “Down This Road” directed by Vinz Feller to premier April 23rd , 7:00pm at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival.

“Down This Road” is a tender melodrama about two lost souls:  A pre-teenager (Brandon Ratcliff) seeks out his estranged dad (Paul Calderon) after fleeing his mother’s workplace with a wad of stolen bills.  His dad becomes aware that reconnecting with his son and sharing their pain, is better than facing life alone, ultimately.

The short had its European premier earlier this year at the Solothurner Filmtage and won an award for Best Fiction at the 30th Black Maria Film Festival.  This short was inspired by a feature film currently in development and due for release in 2012.

Vinz Feller by way of Europe is an accomplished director, having won several awards for his work including mentions from the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures (NBR), the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Swiss Department of Cultural Affairs.  His previous work has been praised and screened at numerous film festivals, worldwide.  He directs commercials and narrative films [both in Europe and the US], and is a partner at TWIN Productions [reputable commercial production company based in Europe].

Feller says of the short, “It’s about a tragic loss that one family experiences.  It examines the results of grief and the pursuit of happiness.  I believe in second chances, I believe in redemption, and I believe that we can learn to be better human beings even in the most difficult situations of our lives.”

“Vinz is one of the brightest, most talented guys on the block. I expect to see many more fine films from him in the years to come.” –Ron Bozman, Academy Award winning producer “Silence of the Lambs.”

“Simply, Vinz is a consummate artist, whose work is both poetic and raw.” –Susan Batson, Producer “Raisin in The Sun.”

“Vinz has an astute visual sensibility and a unique inner voice he freely pulls from. All of his films are engrossing. I’m looking forward to seeing more from this talented filmmaker. –Victor Syrmis, Chairman Arclight Films.

If that isn’t enough, Feller recently won the Honolulu Film Awardwww.honolulufilmawards.com/General/Awards/2011CompetitonWinners/tabid/435/Default.aspx.

Media Dynamo

A diamond in the rough, Caktuz..?13 [pronounced Caktuz] is a witch’s brew of talent.  An accomplished author by the age of 18, he wrote and illustrated his first graphic novel noir ‘Futprintz’ for The American Red Cross. As the first urban graphic novel focusing on AIDS Awareness, the book was heavily distributed all over the U.S. and reprinted many times over. Since then, Cak..?13′s writing has advanced into screenplays, novels, animation, and storyboard production for commercial and theatrical scripts (Wesley Snipes’, Ford, Spike Lee).  Cak..?13 was commissioned by the legendary Melvin Van Peebles to illustrate the feature film adaption of his most recent movie, Confessions Of A Ex Dufus Itchy-Footed Mutha.

Cak..?13′s 2009 induction into the The Official Hip-Hop Tarading Card Company’s first inaugural collection, left hip-hop fans and industry incumbents baffled as to why they would honor an indie artist, who had never held a major deal. In short, “Who is Caktuz..?13 “…”Why him?”

Caktuz..?13, also known as AMAS Multi-Media, has worked with such artists as Bilal, dead prez, Boot Camp Clik, SA-RA, The Dey, Brand Nubian, M.O.P., Young Guru, Michael K. Williams aka Omar from HBO’s Emmy Nominated The Wire and many more.  He is a Carolina blues man by blood.  His first album,  (critically acclaimed) 2 Hevi 4 Heaven, established Caktuz..?13’s place in the industry as a musical and genre innovator. Creating his own ‘Carolina Bluez’ sound and weaving live performance art into his stage shows, set him apart from the rest.

From music and media – to gracing the Broadway stage with the legendary Melvin Van Peebles – his DRX art group performance raised the energy of the show.

Cak..?13  held the Music Director seat  for Wheat Bread Radio – a show he created and directedfor the lifestyle brand of Wheat Bread’s media division.

This country’s strange fruit is an award-winning graphic illustrator/designer, working with virtually all of the most relevant designers such as Ecko, Apple Bottoms, Parish, Timberland, Rocawear, Shady Ltd. Having laced celebs such as Wendy Williams, Queen Latifah and Chris Brown, his work has become heavily sought after by Hollywood’s finest.  Many corporate clients, such as Smirnoff, DC Comics, TBS, Pepsi, Wal-Mart, have called on Cak..?13 by name.

His on-air charisma catapulted him into the acting spotlight.  Cak..?13 (or his distinctive voice) has appeared in numerous film and television efforts, including his mentor Melvin Van Peebles’ new film, The Eddie Black Story (formerly titled Deceptz), the controversial, semi-biopic on the infamous NYC street gang The Decepticons, and even more films in production now.

With all this and still more to come… Caktuz..?13 is the poster boy for a multi-media revolution. Thus, a Media Dynamo, really.

Notorious

The Life and Death story of the late, Notorious B.I.G. has finally made its long-awaited appearance in theatres, in 2009. NOTORIOUS is the story of Christopher Wallace who, through raw talent and sheer determination, transformed himself from a Brooklyn street hustler, to one of the greatest rappers of all time. This story charts his rapid rise to fame and his refusal to succumb to expectation, and redefines the definition of “The American Dream.” Supporting actor, Dennis White [otherwise known as Denace Da Menace], played the role of Biggie’s right-hand man, D-Roc.

White, an actor by trade, has dabbled in rapping, singing, hosting and has been performing for live audiences since the age of five. Always having a personal love for hip-hop, Dennis gave a riveting portrayal of TuPac in the film, Seventh Son.  The buzz generated on White, led to other opportunities such as presenting at the Billboard Awards, in addition to an infinite number of hosting offers (Fuse TV IMX, Hot 97 Summer Jam X, And 1 Tour, and Fox’s Weekend Vibe). He had a starring role in Jay-Z’s music video “Rocboys” and scored roles on the NBC series Law and Order, The Jury and Third Watch. White soon became a series-regular on Spike Lee’s Miracle’s Boys, while still maintaining consistent appearances in blockbusters such as Swimming, I Think I Love My Wife and The Brave One.

Dennis, how many people were you up against for your role in Notorious?

There were 94 actors competing for the role (including Hollywood’s elite and those from The Wire, etc). I was approached by the film’s casting director on Myspace. They already had someone slated for the role, but they weren’t exactly sure about what they wanted. I was the quickest offer that Fox Searchlight Casting signed to the project.”

Describe your role in the film.

My character played Biggie’s childhood friend, who took a charge and went to jail for Biggie so that he could pursue his music career. Once home, he became his road manager and remained with Biggie throughout the events of his life, including his murder. His role is very pivotal in Biggie’s life, as well as in this movie. Their friendship helps define who Biggie really is.

What did you learn about Biggie in this film that you didn’t know before?

I learned that he never wrote down his lyrics; he would roll up a blunt, zone out, get in the studio and just lay a track down. I also didn’t know what a fun-loving, comedian he was; Big’s mother and Lil Cease really helped bring that across in the movie. I also saw that there really was a conspiracy at work to assassinate him.

This is not a movie about hip hop. It’s a human interest story about relationships: Biggie had strong relationships with his mother, Lil Kim, Faith and Diddy.

What is your opinion about the film director’s vision?

I fell in love with the script immediately. Director, George Simmons Jr., [Men of Honor, Soul Food] does beautiful, aesthetically-pleasing, feel-good films, and while emcees like Biggie casted a dark hue over hip hop, Simmons was able to convey a positive message about one of the greatest rappers of our time. The movie speaks to your heart.

What was your relationship like with the cast?

With certain A-listers, you’d think they’d keep their distance from the rest of the cast, but Angela Basset for example, was cool. The cast was like family, down to earth. We all knew that we had a lot on our backs, so it was all about telling the story correctly, and we put our all into it.

In your opinion, what is the underlying message of the film?

The underlying message is “Yes you can.” A young boy from Brooklyn, climbed the ranks of hip hop. He was “fat, black and ugly.”  This story shows that no matter where you’re from, or what your situation is, you can be successful if you work hard.

What’s next for you, Dennis?

I don’t believe there are limitations to what I can achieve and where I can go in this industry, so I just keep moving forward.
