DJ Blaze was born and raised in Elmhurst, Queens. At age 15 he never imagined that he would be a career DJ. But he was drawn to the turntables and the thrill he could give people through the sets he played. Early, he learned that he could move the crowd with his vinyl selections.
Time flew before Blaze realized he had established himself as a venerable mixologist of the hip hop, house and pop genres.
While attending Berkeley College, Blaze earned a guest DJ position at New York’s Herald Square Macys, where his sets would contribute positively to customers’ shopping experiences; his job was to “hype up” the shoppers and reportedly helped boost sales by 30% during his tenure. The store’s in-house DJ for 10 years, Blaze controlled the music of two floors for the Men, Women and Juniors departments.
Simultaneously, Blaze guess-DJ’d on New York radio stations WPLJ’s 95.5, KTU’s 103.5, Power 105.1 and Z100.
DJ Blaze would go on to provide the soundtracks of various high profile events for such industry figureheads and celebrities as Russell Simmons, J Lo, Rihanna, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Nelly, Kimora Lee, Rev Run, Ashante, Fabulos, Jessica Simpson and Fergie; for such print publications as Vogue, Maxim, Latina, and Seventeen; for such special events as Fashion Night Out (Fashion Week), and Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular Show.
DJ Blaze toured the world – musically engineering special events held in France, Australia, Dominican Republic and Colombia, and nationwide, but it would all come to a temporary end: with features in Cosmopolitan, the Village Voice, You’re Cute, and News Day, Blaze reflectively says of his trade, “Deejaying is very therapeutic; it beat my cancer. I paid my dues and now I’m ready to give my experience to new ventures.”
Currently exploring radio, the fashion industry and special promotional events, DJ Blaze is a proven inspiration to the people. With his rich history in musicology, his ability to move the people is undeniable.
