You all know and love her. She’s been on the other side of that camera for several decades, namely on “Good Morning America,” and is a national health advocate. We’re talking about Joan Lunden, and she is currently battling triple negative breast cancer.
She is seen on the cover of People without a wig, and when asked why she chose to do that, she said she wanted to try to help others.
It was a major decision for Lunden, as it would be for most women. The once-newswoman had to decide whether or not to showcase her sickness, or be the poster child of a quintessential fighter. “I had to make this big decision about whether or not to do the cover with no hair. It certainly isn’t the comfortable way to go, but I decided I was going to try and help others and show women that this isn’t the end of the world. You can go on – and that was hugely empowering,” she stated.
After revealing her illness to “Good Morning America” on June 24, and recently being diagnosed, she made the executive decision to cut off all of her hair. In doing this, Joan commented, “You know it’s going to happen one of these days and you are wondering how and when, so I just owned it.”
We certainly wish Joan Lunden well for a speedy recovery. She sure is a fighter! The new issue of People magazine comes to a newsstand near you Friday.
