Talib Kweli released The Cathedral mixtape today under his indie label imprint, Javotti Media.
The purpose of the 15-track mixtape, is to highlight new artists in the label’s brand family. Hosted by Affion Crocket, the project features Big K.R.I.T., Curren$y, Joelle Ortiz, Kendra Ross and Pharoahe Monch, among many.
Kweli, being the lyrically and instrumental chemist that he is, brings all of the unconventionality and mental whit (so true to his form), to The Cathedral. This mixtape is smart and bold. Instrumentally, I can appreciate Kweli’s incorporation of jazz, at a time when many are trying to pass off technology, as music.
