Philly Rapper “Cool C” Gets Execution Date




For 19 years, Golden Era rapper Cool C, 44, has been on death row for murder comitted in the first degree of Philadelphia female police officer, Lauretha Vaird. On January 2, 1996, Vaird – then 43 and a nine-year vet on the force – responded to the PNC Bank robbery call that found he, Steady B and another local rapper, Mark Canty, at the scene of.

Governor Corbett signed Cool C’s execution warrant on Friday, and he is slated for execution by lethal injection in Pennsylvania’s Correctional Institute on January 8th, 2015.

Canty and McClone both received life in prison for their roles in the crime.

In the late ‘80s, Cool C, whose real name is Christopher Roney, had a hit record called “The Glamorous Life,” a recording contract with Atlantic Records, and a crew named C.E.B. (Countin’ Endless Bank).
