Hawthorne, CA emcee, Red Cloud, went on a lyrical excursion in breaking the Guinness World Record of 17 – straight hours of free styling.
Known for kicking free styles at his shows, Red Cloud did it this time, to bring awareness to missing and murdered women in Canada.
Red Cloud reportedly hosts a quarterly event at the Airliner in LA called “Indigenous Angels.” The proceeds of every event are donated to different charities.
Red Cloud’s said that his inspiration to break the record came from his freestyle hero Supernatural, who broke the Guinness World Record at nine hours in 2006. When Red Cloud decided to attempt to break the record, his training included jogging and rapping, and swinging his nunchucks while rapping and swimming. His regimen was designed to get both sides of his brain working at the same time. Red Cloud also says he used rosemary oil as aroma therapy – said to be good for memory enhancement.
On November 29, 2014 at the Airliner, it was approximately 2:45 a.m. when Red Cloud got in the mic to freestyle. According to Cloud, the jump off was one of two easier time periods because he was so eager. As he approached the ninth hour, he said he saw some of his crew starting to fade and he also began to think about a nap, but he pushed through because he wanted to break Chiddy Bang’s record. The second easiest time period for him was when the crowd began arriving to the show at around 9 p.m., because his instinct to rock the crowd kicked in and he was aiming for shock value every four bars.
Among those in attendance to show their support was Ras Kass, featured artist of MTV’s Rebel Music, Nataanii Means, and previous freestyle opponent, Quese IMC.
