Hip Hop Remembers ESPN’s Stuart Scott

ESPN has announced that its longtime anchor, Stuart Scott, lost his battle with cancer.

The 49-year-old North Carolina native died Sunday morning in a Hartford, CT hospital.

Scott is well remembered for his signature phrases “Boo-Yah!” and “As cool as the other side of the pillow,” among others.

Scott’s influence on hip hop was indisputable. Scott explained in an interview with XXL last July, how instrumental hip hop music was him, as well.

“I like infusing hip-hop into what I do, because it’s part of who I am. You’ve got to be true to who you are and what you do. I’m more of a hip-hop feel person. Music is how you feel. One of the reasons why I do my job the way I do it is because I want to let people know it does not have to be the way society says it has to be.”

Scott has been mentioned numerous times in rap lyrics, and has appeared in a few music videos, such as Luther Campbell’s “Raise the Roof” and LL Cool J’s “Shut em Down.”

The hip hop community shared their condolences for Scott via social media today, check it out.
