Carmelo Anthony chopped it up with Vice Sports in a short documentary-style video about some of the opinions he has about life in New York City.
“New York is the greatest city on the planet, I think. But you’re not a New Yorker if you don’t wake up some days and be like ‘man, fuck this place,'” said Melo.
“You know what I mean? I don’t care who you are. You could be the mayor, you could be the governor, all the way down to the mailman. Everybody wakes up some days and says, ‘man, fuck New York.'”
“I’m immune to it. But sometimes you do want some peace and tranquility. You want to just relax and not have to listen to that shit sometimes.
“I always say you are what the headlines say you are. You’re supposed to just shut up and just play, don’t complain about nothing. Don’t have no emotion about nothing. If you say something, you’re a fucked up person. If you don’t say something, you’re a fucked up person. You’ve got to take it one day at a time. Because if you start looking ahead, you start thinking about so many other things, you’ll ruin yourself.”
There it is, words from an athlete who isn’t afraid to voice his opinions about how the lack of patience in the city makes him feel.
Athletes don’t just chase a ball around, they have feelings, too. Check out more of the interview below:
